DIFS Encourages Michiganders to Plan for Health Insurance Coverage Now for 2026 Media Contact: [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 21, 2025 (LANSING, MICH) The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is encouraging Michiganders to be ready for the upcoming Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment period, which starts Nov. 1. A record 530,000 Michiganders are currently enrolled in health insurance through the Marketplace. Recent federal changes, as well as expiring tax credits, mean it has never been more important to review your insurance coverage and make a selection during the upcoming Open Enrollment period. “Health insurance improves health outcomes and helps protect your family’s health and financial future,” said Director Anita Fox. “As we head into Open Enrollment season now is the time for, Michiganders to start preparing for and thinking about their health insurance options for 2026. Michiganders who need help finding or maintaining health insurance or understanding their options can call DIFS at 877-999-6442, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or visit Michigan.gov/HealthInsurance.” To get ready for open enrollment, Michiganders should gather important tax and income verification documents, take the time to shop around and compare health insurance plans, and keep track of the shortened deadlines and new requirements listed below. Michiganders who utilize HealthCare.gov for their health insurance needs should be aware of the following changes:
Open Enrollment for 2026 health insurance runs from November 1, 2025, through January 15, 2026. Consumers must select a plan no later than December 15, 2025, for coverage to start on January 1, 2026. Consumers who miss ACA deadlines will, in most instances, have to wait a full year to obtain coverage. DIFS has created a video to help consumers learn about health insurance and get answers to their open enrollment questions on the Health Insurance Marketplace, and it can be viewed at Michigan.gov/HealthInsurance. Open Enrollment navigators are also available to provide free, local assistance to consumers who need help signing up for health coverage. For assistance, visit HealthCare.gov or call 800-318-2596.
