I’m Stephanie, a survivor of the Highland Park, Illinois, mass shooting that took place on July 4th, 2022. Tomorrow, I’ll be joining MILLIONS of Americans across the country at a No Kings Day rally to protest Trump’s attempts to turn himself into a king while he ignores the dire issues people across the country face – including increasing gun violence. In 2022, my family and I gathered in downtown Highland Park to celebrate the 4th of July at a local parade.

Instead, we found ourselves running for our lives to escape a mass shooting that stole the lives of 7 innocent people and injured 48 others.

Tomorrow, just two city blocks from the site of that tragedy, I will gather with countless others to protest this administration’s abuses of power that have allowed gun violence to continue unabated. We will fight back against those propping Trump and his cronies up as petty kings.

Because in the three years since a shooter armed with an AR-15 changed my hometown forever, we’ve seen COUNTLESS mass shootings.

But Trump and his gun-lobby-backed Republican Majorities have spent their time:

→ SHREDDING gun safety protections by rolling back crucial gun violence prevention legislation

→ UNLEASHING weapons of war back onto our streets by further deregulating their sale

→ And DEFUNDING critical gun violence prevention initiatives, including shuttering the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and cancelling funding for other critical community violence interruption programs

All while 340+ mass shootings have torn our country apart this year alone!

That’s why it’s never been more important for every single gun safety champion to stand up and say enough is enough. Whether it’s attending a protest like No Kings Day tomorrow, chipping in a dollar, or phonebanking for a local candidate, every single action we take – no matter how big or small – adds up and makes a difference. Together, we can make our voices heard – and push back against those in power who want to sweep mass shootings like the one my family and I survived under the rug. I’m personally asking for 300 folks to say they’re in before midnight to show that we’re not backing down or giving up until we ban assault weapons and end mass shootings for good.
