Compassion in Action
Dear Friend,
As a Quaker organization, AFSC believes in the inherent worth and light of every person. People come to the U.S. seeking safety, dignity, and a better life. Our communities are stronger with immigrants.
Thank you for all the ways you show up for your community. Your support has an impact.
I want to share a real story from our Immigrant Rights Program in New Jersey—one that shows why the support of our AFSC community is so important.
Earlier this year, two longtime residents of New Jersey were suddenly arrested during an ICE interview. There was no time to say goodbye. They were transferred to a detention center in Louisiana, hundreds of miles from their homes and families. One was separated from her 10-year-old daughter.
Thankfully, the women were not alone. They had a network of support—including each other, family members, and our AFSC legal services team.
Because of emergency plans AFSC made with the families ahead of time, we were able to act fast when our clients were arrested. Within weeks, both women were home with their families.
Legal support is just one part of AFSC’s work. We work for a future where everyone is welcome. We work for a world where civil and human rights are protected and where families are safe from detention and deportation.
This work is made possible by a powerful community of volunteers, advocates, and supporters like you. Thank you for all that you do.
Today, you have the opportunity to amplify your impact. AFSC has launched our largest match of the year. From now until Nov. 20, your donation will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000. Join our Compassion in Action Matching Gift Challenge today, and your gift will go twice as far! [link removed]
Together, we are creating real change. When you support AFSC today, your gift will help:
* Provide legal and social services. We’re helping people secure release from detention, apply for asylum, navigate ICE check-ins, and more.
* Conduct ‘Know Your Rights’ trainings. We’re preparing immigrants, their families, and other community members for interactions with federal law enforcement agents. We are supporting their advocacy and community organizing.
* Support people who are deported from the U.S. We’re providing humanitarian aid, documenting human rights violations, and advocating for policy change in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.
Together we can counter fear with love—and action. With your support, we work to respond to crisis, uplift immigrant voices, and advance bold, immigrant-led advocacy for the world we want to see.
Thank you for all you do. If you’re able, please consider joining our Compassion in Action Matching Gift Challenge [link removed] to double your impact. Your donation will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000, during AFSC’s largest match of the year.
No matter how you show your support, we are thankful for you. Together, we can create a more welcoming and just world for all.
In peace,
Amy Gottlieb
