Hi John!

We've had another eventful month! After its new charter was adopted at September's Chapter Meeting, the Housing Working Group had its first two meetings and just elected co-chairs. The International Solidarity Working Group, alongside De Anza SJP, is hard at work flyering as part of a campaign for Santa Clara County to divest from companies complicit in the Palestinian genocide. On October 4, the Labor Working Group joined what will be an ongoing practice picket campaign by Starbucks Workers United as they fight to unionize. Most recently, SV DSA participated in a second No Kings March & Rally on October 18 as part of our ongoing fight against fascism.

Join us at our Chapter Meeting on Saturday, October 25, from 1-3 PM, either in person at SEIU Local 521 Union Hall or via Zoom. You can find the meeting agenda here - we will have a skill building session on public speaking, vote on an amendment to remove the democratic centralism ban in SV DSA's bylaws, and debrief on our 2025-2026 Strategic Plan. Afterwards at 3-4 PM, we'll have a phone bank to members whose DSA memberships are expiring, ask them to renew, and join us in voting on Measure A and Prop 50.

Will we see you there?

In Solidarity,

SV DSA

Measure A and Prop 50 Canvassing and Phonebanking

SV DSA backs Prop 50 and Measure A! You can read more about why we endorse Measure A on our blog here. Ongoing phone banking and canvassing has been critical in building the community support needed to pass both Measure A and Prop 50, and we need your help! There are opportunities for phone banking multiple times per week, with in-person phone banking Tuesday-Thursday from 5:30-8:00 PM at SEIU Local 521 Union Hall and remote phone banking on Zoom on Mondays from 5:45-8:00 PM. You can join in on canvassing every Saturday from 9 AM - 2 PM, also at SEIU Local 521. We would love to see you there as part of the team!

DSA members stand behind a large Vote Yes on A Save our Local Hospitals sign.

Divesting from Genocide: No Appetite for Apartheid & Upcoming Finance and Government Operations Committee Meeting

Several DSA chapters have been working together to advocate for local businesses to drop products from companies complicit in Israel's genocide in Gaza. There have been many canvassing events in San José that have been successful in persuading businesses to become Apartheid-Free, and there will be another canvass on Sunday, October 26 from 2-4 PM, meeting at San José City Hall.

Additionally, SV DSA's International Solidarity Working Group has been leading a coalition of antiwar groups in a campaign to get Santa Clara County to divest from companies that are complicit in the genocide and/or participate in the fossil fuel industry, such as Exxon and Chevron. A recommendation from Santa Clara County's Sustainability Commission is likely to be considered at the next Finance and Government Operations Committee Meeting on Thursday, November 6 at 2 PM. Give public comment at this meeting to show your support and help to stop funding genocide!

No Appetite for Apartheid. Solidarity with Palestine! Boycott Israeli goods!
Email the County to divest!

Update: No Kings Day!

This past Saturday October 18, SV DSA took part in the No Kings Rally and March in San José, another in a continuous string of efforts to push back against fascism. It was wonderful to see over 10,000 protesters, both in and outside of SV DSA, unite under this common cause! However, the work is far from over - we must be persistent as we strive toward a better future for us all. Solidarity Forever!

SV DSA members hold a red banner and flag while standing behind our table at the No Kings rally.
