Last Saturday, Ogle County once again lived up to the unfortunate title we've given it: The Toilet of Illinois. Animal abusers from across the state and beyond flooded in for yet another illegal and barbaric steer tailing event—an event that spits on humane laws, common decency, and basic ethics.


The toll on the animals was devastating. Out of the 41 steers brought in for abuse, 11 suffered degloving injuries—a horrific and extremely painful condition where the skin is violently ripped from the tail, sometimes down to the bone. That’s more than 25% of the animals maimed in a single day.

This isn’t sport. This isn’t tradition. This is deliberate torture.

All day long, the steers were shocked by participants who tried to keep their cruelty hidden. But we were there. We watched. We documented everything. And now, we’re speaking for the victims who can’t speak for themselves.


The Worst Offenders were the ones who didn’t show up. As awful as the abuse was, what makes it even worse is the total failure of those entrusted to uphold the law.


State’s Attorney Mike Rock continues to refuse to prosecute, even with undeniable video evidence in hand. Sheriff Brian VanVickle and his deputies? Nowhere to be found. Silent. Passive. Complicit. And the Ogle County Board balances out this ring of corruption by being as spineless as it is corrupt.

When local systems fail, the next line of defense should be the state. But Governor JB Pritzker has refused to act, making it clear that corruption and cruelty can thrive in Illinois as long as it stays politically convenient.


So yes, Ogle County is still The Toilet of Illinois. But Governor Pritzker has turned the entire state into a cesspool where animals have no protection and corruption goes unchecked.
