Dear Friend,
This past weekend, Maryland showed up.
From the Eastern Shore to Baltimore, from deep-blue cities to deep-red towns, thousands of people joined the No Kings Day of Action, standing together to reject authoritarianism and send a clear message to Trump and his enablers: the power belongs to the people — not to kings, tyrants, or billionaires. It was bold. It was peaceful. It was deeply Maryland.
Runners at the Baltimore marathon were wearing “No Kings” race bibs as they crossed the finish line. In Harford County, more than 2,000 people rallied in Aberdeen — proof that our neighbors are ready to resist. This is what people power looks like. It’s creative. It’s compassionate. And it’s unapologetically committed to democracy. We’re proud of everyone who turned out, who held a sign, who honked in support, who reminded the world what real patriotism looks like — not allegiance to a tyrant, but a fierce belief in liberty, justice, and dignity for all.
The fight doesn’t stop here. Read on for this week’s action items, campaign updates, and ways to stay plugged into our movement across the state.

Healthcare Task Force: Our Health Care Over Money for Billionaires and ICE!
Things To Do This Week: -
Call Speaker Mike Johnson to ask him why the GOP is spending billions of our tax dollars on ICE agents and rich CEOs, but saying there’s no money for Affordable Care Act premium tax credits that will keep 4 million Americans insured. This map shows rate changes by state. Demand that he reopen the government, restore ALL healthcare funding, and re-hire and pay federal workers. His phone # is 202 225-2777. Republican members are not working, but they’re still getting paychecks and health insurance.
-
Speaking of unaccountable Republican House Members: there’s still time to sign the petition to Rep. Andy Harris if you live in his Congressional District, CD-01. Sign here: pgmd.us/HarrisPetition. We will deliver the signatures to his office next week, so please sign today if you haven’t yet!
To learn more about our organizing and about training sessions and briefings on these topics, contact Patty. Progressive Maryland & Allies Demand Justice from Johns Hopkins:
Last week, nearly 75 Baltimore residents rallied with the With Us For Us (WUFU) Coalition to demand accountability from Johns Hopkins University & Hospital System. We called for fair taxation, an end to private policing, protection of green spaces, and respect for workers’ rights — and we made sure they heard us. The rally drew coverage from The Baltimore Sun, CBS Baltimore, WMAR2 News, and the Baltimore Brew. PMD was the event emcee. Thank you to everyone who showed up and spoke out. Stay tuned — we’re not done yet.

News You Can Use: UMD, other state facilities feel pinch of ongoing shutdown
Marylanders and another 7--8 million folks around the country raised hell quietly and peacefully at No Kings events ranging from hundreds of thousands in Times Square (NYC) and the Capitol in DC to dozens standing up for freedom in a deep-red, pro-Trump hamlet in rural Georgia. Funny costumes and quite serious signs announced that the millions mocked the posturing MAGA mouthpieces who slurred their motives while seriously demanding respect for the rights of free speech and action, and the right to go out in public without being profiled and hustled by ICE.
The shutdown is having its effect on the lives of everyday Marylanders -- and not only the laid-off federal workers: when they hurt, we all hurt. But, as Megan E reminds us below in the PA weekly notebook, the increases in Affordable Care Act premiums will be in everyone's mailbox by Nov. 1, and the hundreds of thousands effectively thrown off health care programs in deep-Red states will get full evidence of their betrayal by the paid-off, Trump-fearing politicians they elected. It will not be pretty. But, alas, it is News You Can Use.
