Tyranny and liberty cannot live in the same house.

Hi friend,

On Saturday, I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with New Yorkers in the streets of Manhattan to make one thing clear: Tyranny and liberty cannot live in the same house.

The energy at this weekend’s No Kings Rally was inspiring. People of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs came together to defend our democracy from those who seek to dismantle it.

I told the crowd what’s been going on. In Washington, D.C., there is a total breakdown of our democracy. Speaker Johnson has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Donald Trump. He has shut down the House of Representatives, where we do the work for the people, and he’s doing it at Trump’s command.

My colleagues and I are here for health care. We are here to make sure that our federal workers will be treated with dignity. We're here to rebuild and reimagine a civil society that includes everyone. Everyone from every background, every race, every religion.

We are showing up for the people. And, our Republican colleagues will not.

What is happening, what we are feeling, what we are experiencing is real. This is a power grab that we will not abide. And if we in any way continue to believe that we can slide through this, then we will lose the democracy that so many fought and died for.

It is up to each and every one of us to recognize that the anxiety we feel is real and that anxiety has to be turned into power. That’s what this moment demands.

Democracy, freedom, and liberty cannot live in the same house with tyranny. They never have and they never will. Each and every one of us must be the soldiers we need to liberate this nation from Donald Trump and all those who espouse his type of tyranny.

We cannot sit on the sidelines, not when there is so much at stake. This is our moment, for this generation and for future generations to come.

Will you stand with me? Chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can today to say No Kings. Not now. Not ever.

We will not let them crown tyrants in a democracy. We’re fighting back. One act, one voice, one contribution at a time.
