I Changed My Mind: Sue's Story

“That was a big wake-up call as well as a motivator to start examining our belief systems.”

Stix first came out to her mom Sue, a then long-time conservative and Evangelical republican, when she was a teenager. This journey of acceptance and transformation was not without challenge, but in this second episode of I Changed My Mind (ICMM), we sat down with Sue to discuss how she changed her mind about faith, politics, and unconditional love.

ICMM is a series of thought-provoking and inspiring conversations developed by filmmaker Brooke Sebold, produced in collaboration with PFLAG National, that centers parents, families, and LGBTQ+ individuals and their stories of transformation and courage to change and renew.

Fighting For Our Pride

LGBTQ+ people and their families know all too well the reality of the political climate, the attitudes of the public, and the sheer lack of respect that LGBTQ+ people are experiencing in the world today. There is no end to the hostile barrage of laws, city ordinances, and regulations on LGBTQ+ people, especially young LGBTQ+ people. This particular moment in history calls us to support LGBTQ+ people across the country at every level of government.

Join us on Wednesday, October 22nd at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT to learn more about PFLAG’s newest Advocacy Campaign, Fighting for Our Pride. We will review the campaign goals and outline the tools you can expect. You will also have the opportunity to sign up for more regular updates about the campaign as the political landscape continues to evolve.

October 19-26 is Asexual Awareness Week

This Asexual Awareness Week, we’re celebrating and uplifting the spectrum of asexual identities. To our asexual loved ones: we see you, we support you, and we're PFLAG Proud of you! 🖤🩶🤍💜

What does it mean to be asexual?

Sometimes abbreviated as ace, the term refers to an individual who does not experience sexual attraction. Each asexual person experiences relationships, attraction, and arousal differently. Asexuality is distinct from chosen behavior such as celibacy or sexual abstinence; asexuality is a sexual orientation that does not necessarily define sexual behaviors. Asexual people exist on a spectrum of sexual attraction and can use terms such as gray asexual or gray ace to describe themselves.

Find resources and learn how you can be an ally to asexual people all year long on our website.
