Friend,
This is a tough time for IL-13 and communities nationwide as the Republican-led government shutdown drags on. I’m committed to doing right by Central and Southern Illinois – and it starts with showing up and listening.
I’m energized by the folks I’m meeting and taking their stories back to Washington with me as I fight to end the shutdown and ensure affordable and accessible health care.
So today, I wanted to catch you up on some of the events I’ve gone to in the last few weeks. I’m fired up to keep fighting for working families in Illinois – and I hope you’ll read my update the whole way through.
Thank you,
Nikki
I was glad to stop by the WSOY Food Drive and discuss how we can make sure everyone in our communities has access to food. This was one of the largest single-day food drives in the nation, collecting over 30 million pounds of food in 20+ years!
I had a great weekend at the Belleville Chili Cookout, supporting many of our local businesses.
Last month, I visited the Farm Progress Show grounds with the Illinois Soybean Association and learned about how conservation practices support Illinois farmers.
I also joined the Mason County Dems River Party in September to talk about how we can band together to make change happen and protect our communities.
I’ll continue to keep pushing at home and back in Washington to stand up for working families and the thousands of Illinoisans under threat during the shutdown. Listening to your stories is a key part of my job and directly informs my work in Congress.
Thank you, and have a great rest of your weekend!
Nikki
