These actions jeopardize any chance for a lasting peace.

Friend, when I shared the news of the ceasefire in Gaza with you last week, I warned that we must stay vigilant until it’s the real deal.

The Palestinians who live in Gaza have suffered for two long years, and have finally been given the opportunity to return to the rubble where their homes once stood, recover their lost friends and family from the wreckage, and attempt to rebuild from the ground up.

But over the weekend we saw exactly how serious Israel is treating this ceasefire. The IDF bombed over a hundred locations in Gaza, killing dozens of people. Dozens more have been shot by IDF soldiers. Humanitarian aid entering Gaza has been even further restricted by Netanyahu and his government. These actions jeopardize any chance for a lasting peace.

Meanwhile, attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank have intensified. Settlers are now emboldened by the focus on Gaza to continue to steal Palestinian land and homes through violent force.

On Friday a 10 year old Palestinian boy was shot dead after the IDF opened fire on a group of kids playing soccer. Yesterday a mob of masked settlers attacked a Palestinian village and chased down an American journalist who was documenting the scene, nearly killing him. The same mob beat an elderly Palestinian woman on the head with a club, sending her to the ICU in critical condition.

Whether it’s violence and theft in the West Bank or the genocide in Gaza, Israel’s policies and military goals continue to be driven by far-right extremists who will stop at nothing short of the complete annexation of Palestine into Israel and the expulsion or even elimination of the Palestinian people.

That’s exactly why we must continue to build the movement for Palestinian justice and self-determination, pressure Congress to block any and all military and economic aid to Israel, and help keep international attention on Israel and their actions.

So, if you are outraged by Israel’s continued attacks and are looking to take action right now, I have one quick way you can help today:

Add your name to my petition calling on my fellow members of Congress to support an embargo on aid to Israel until a permanent ceasefire is respected and Israel finally addresses illegal settlements and settler violence in the West Bank. The United States cannot and should not reward a violent, criminal, out-of-control Israeli government with continued financial support.
