Team — this weekend, I was proud to join thousands of New Jerseyans to send a message loud and clear to Donald Trump and his far-right enablers.

In this country, our oath is to the Constitution — not to a king.

But listen, this protest is only successful if it’s a first step. And the most meaningful opportunity we’ll have to fight back against Trump’s pursuit of endless power is two weeks from now, when we can defeat Trump’s biggest cheerleader, Jack Ciattarelli, in the New Jersey governor’s race. Let’s be clear: every single day, Donald Trump finds new ways to attack the rule of law. Sometimes, it’s to personally enrich himself. Sometimes, it’s to cater to his billionaire donors. And sometimes, it’s just to punish people who oppose his policies.

This weekend, we made it clear: the American people do not accept Trump’s cruelty and authoritarianism as our new normal.

I was proud to stand with my fellow New Jerseyans in defense of our democracy, but I’m also clear-eyed:

If we lose this race, and make a blind Trump loyalist like Jack Ciattarelli our next governor, then Trump and DC Republicans will think this protest ultimately means nothing, and that they can continue to abuse their power without facing any consequences at the ballot box.

But if we win this race, we show the country that the people aren’t just showing up to protest, they’re showing up to vote — and that there is no path to power for candidates who bend the knee to Trump.

The stakes are incredibly high right now, and polls show a nailbiter of a race.
