Right now, 85,000 Nevadans — and millions of Americans — are at risk of losing the Affordable Care Act tax credits that help them afford their health insurance.

If Congress doesn’t act soon to extend these credits, families could see their premiums increase by hundreds, even thousands, of dollars a year. For some, that could mean losing coverage altogether.

Earlier this week, I sat down with parents, health care providers, and community leaders in Las Vegas to discuss what these looming cuts would mean for families here at home. The message was clear: we can’t let partisan gridlock in Washington raise health care costs on hardworking Americans.

I’ve always believed that solving problems takes listening, compromise, and common sense. That’s why I’ve fought to lower health care costs for Nevada families — from protecting Affordable Care Act tax credits, to expanding access to care, to tackling the root causes that drive costs up in the first place. I’ve worked across the aisle to get it done, because making health care more affordable shouldn’t be a partisan issue.

But now, national Republicans are pushing policies that would gut the Affordable Care Act and skyrocket costs for working families. We can’t let them roll back the progress we’ve made.
