Hey John, I wanted to take a minute to talk about what's happening with the government shutdown — and what it means for Virginia's gubernatorial race now that we're just two weeks out from Election Day.
House Republicans shut down the government weeks ago because they'd rather cut your health care to support what their billionaire backers want than fight for the American people to get a fair shake. They're refusing to work with Democrats to strike a fair deal because they're in the pockets of corporate special interests.
Meanwhile, Trump and White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought are using this shutdown to backdoor in the firings of thousands of federal workers — it's just plain wrong. As a result, federal workers are missing paychecks (and some are losing their jobs!), key programs are stalled, and families are feeling the squeeze.
Here's the thing, John: thousands of Virginians are federal workers, and that work is a massive part of the state's economy. When Washington shuts down, it's often Virginia's jobs, small businesses, and local communities that take the hit.
This is exactly why we need a leader like Abigail Spanberger as governor.
Abigail has spent her career serving with integrity, pragmatism, and purpose. Her leadership is grounded in service and a deep understanding of how federal decisions ripple through our communities.
Abigail is the kind of leader who cuts through the noise. She listens, she acts, and she gets results. That's what she's done in Congress, and that's the kind of leadership she'll bring to Richmond.
