Attorney General Nessel Launches New Social Media Account Dedicated to Helping Protect Consumers from Scams
*LANSING* – Today, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the Department of Attorney General has launched a new consumer protection social media account, Michigan Consumer Protection (@MIConsumerWatch), dedicated to helping Michigan residents stay safe from scams, identity theft, and other deceptive schemes.
The new account will serve as a trusted source for scam alerts, consumer protection tips, education resources and updates from the Department of Attorney General. By following Michigan Consumer Protection, Michiganders can stay informed about the latest tactics used by bad actors to trick people out of their money and personal information.
“Scammers are getting more and more sophisticated, and often use social media to find consumers,” Nessel said. “We’re meeting people where they are – online – to make sure Michigan residents have the information they need to recognize, avoid, and report scams before it’s too late.”
The Michigan Consumer Protection account will post content designed to:
* Alert consumers to current scams and deceptions targeting Michigan residents;
* Share practical tips on how to protect personal and financial information;
* Provide guidance on reporting fraud and identity theft; and
* Promote consumer alerts available on the Department’s Consumer Protection website.
To keep information engaging, Michigan Consumer Protection will feature regular campaigns focused on specific consumer issues and scam trends. The campaigns will highlight a different topic through interactive posts, videos, and tips to help residents stay one step ahead of scammers.
