Together, we did it. After documenting some of the most horrific animal cruelty we've seen in our 30-year history, I'm thrilled to announce that Manning BeefâLos Angeles' last remaining cow slaughterhouseâhas closed its doors. Now we need your help to ensure it never reopens and that no other slaughterhouse takes its place.
Manning Beef operated in Pico Rivera since the 1920sânearly a century of animal suffering. But in recent years, the cracks began to show. Remember when 40 cows escaped in 2021? When Joaquin Phoenix rescued a cow and her calf in 2020? When activists held candlelight vigils week after week, refusing to let the community forget what happened behind those walls?
Our investigation was the final blow to Manning Beef before it closed down.
The Investigation That Changed Everything
Last year, our undercover investigator documented systematic torture at Manning Beef that shocked even our most experienced team members. Cows being butchered while still appearing conscious. Animals shocked over 20 times with cattle prods. Piles of unborn calf fetuses extracted from pregnant cows.

Despite 61 humane handling violations between 2018 and 2024, Manning Beef continued supplying federal child nutrition programsâincluding the National School Lunch Programâuntil now.
You stood with us when we released that horrific footage. You shared it, even though it was painful to watch. You contacted Manning Beef's customer Darling Ingredients. You demanded justice. And today, Manning Beef is closed.
Our Fight Isn't Over Yet
While we celebrate this closure, we must ensure this facility never again becomes a site of animal suffering. Manning Beef is currently in bankruptcy proceedings, and Force10 Partnersâthe investment banker handling the caseâhas the power to determine what happens to the property next.
We need your help: Join thousands of Animal Outlook supporters urging Force10 Partners not to sell this property to another slaughterhouse operator. Let's permanently break this cycle of cruelty in Los Angeles.
Your voice matters. By speaking up now, you're not just helping animalsâyou're supporting the local community that has endured decades of nuisance from this facility.
With your continued support, we'll keep exposing the truth about animal agriculture and inspiring change across the nation. Every investigation, every legal action, every victory like this one moves us closer to a more just world for animals.
Thank you for standing with usâand with the animals.
For justice and compassion,
Ben Williamson
Executive Director
