** The State Legislator’s Guide to the 2025 Federal Budget: Medicaid
------------------------------------------------------------
By cutting and capping federal Medicaid funding, the Big Ugly Bill puts enormous pressure on state budgets, forcing difficult choices about which programs and services to maintain. But state lawmakers have the power to act. By defending Medicaid and advancing policies that keep people covered, strengthen provider networks, and ensure families can access care when and where they need it, states can protect the most vulnerable and safeguard the future of our health care system.

** SiX at Farm Aid!
------------------------------------------------------------
In partnership with Farm Aid, SiX brought over two dozen state legislators from nine Midwestern states to the 40th anniversary of the world-renowned Farm Aid festival in Minneapolis, MN. Legislators learned alongside farmers and partners, engaging in critical discussions about agriculture and rural policy. They also attended dynamic farm tours and strategized about how to build a movement for healthy, vibrant food and farming communities.
With iconic musicians like Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young joining farmers and organizers, the event celebrated rural America and raised over $85 million in aid to America’s independent farmers.
This is the fourth year SiX has organized with state legislators in the Cohort for Rural Opportunity and Prosperity (CROP) for a Farm Aid policy panel. State legislators left the event energized and committed to advancing policies that boost rural livability and improve our food systems.

** SiX at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference: Made for This Moment
------------------------------------------------------------
It was an honor to join the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 54th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) ([link removed]) in Washington, D.C. Fitting this year’s conference theme, state legislators in SiX’s Reproductive Freedom Leadership Council (RFLC) ([link removed]) showed that we indeed are “Made for This Moment.” From panels to speaking at receptions, our legislators left attendees feeling inspired.
As part of The Century Foundation's Black Maternal Health Federal Policy Collective ([link removed]) , SiX’s Reproductive Freedom team helped host the reception “State Success to National Impact: Celebrating Black Maternal Health Wins.” Overall, the conference was an incredible opportunity to forge strategic alliances that will enhance collaboration between federal, state, and local efforts in support of maternal health equity.

** Hispanic Heritage Month Resolutions
------------------------------------------------------------
As part of this year’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, SiX RFLC members introduced resolutions and proclamations in state legislatures nationwide to formally recognize the cultural, economic, social, and political contributions of Hispanic and Latino people.
These efforts come at a critical time. Hispanic and Latino communities are facing ongoing and escalating attacks on their civil rights from the Trump administration and GOP-controlled Congress, including reproductive violence in immigration detention, abortion bans, insurance denials, and the persistent threat of ICE harassment when seeking essential services, including health care.
