As Americans and Europeans continue to grapple with the legacies of racism, they might want to explore the key role played by scientific racism in the justification of Western imperialism during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From 1904-08, Germany’s “Second Reich” exterminated the Herero people in the name of Darwinian “survival of the fittest.”

The general absence of fossil bilaterian animals from the Ediacaran era is hardly a secret among paleontologists, but certainly an inconvenient truth.

Ann Reid, executive director of the National Center for Science Education (NCSE), recently published an article reporting on apparent successes they have had in preventing teachers from teaching “creationism” in public schools. Keeping in mind that the NCSE always lumps intelligent design together with “creationism,” there are reasons to be skeptical of that purported large drop.
