SENATE UPDATE: Shutdown Week 4

Last Week

You may have noticed something funny happened to news coverage of the government shutdown last week — it disappeared. On Wednesday, the nation’s two largest newspapers — the New York Times and Wall Street Journal — didn’t run a single story about it!

You can guess the reason: Americans blame Democrats for the shutdown. They’re the ones demanding a trillion dollars in new spending — including health care for illegal immigrants. They’re the ones who keep blocking bills to reopen the government. They did it three more times last week.

Meanwhile, conservatives keep piling up wins.

  • President Trump has already laid off more than 4,000 Deep State bureaucrats.

  • His budget chief says layoffs could eventually total 10,000.

  • Senate Republicans continue to confirm the president’s nominees.

  • Trump’s tariffs even yielded the Treasury a $180 billion surplus in September.

With the Right rolling and this past weekend’s “No Kings” masquerade balls a bust, pressure is mounting on Shutdown Democrats to look for an exit ramp.

Conservative Spotlight

RON JOHNSON — Conservative Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is working with Republican leaders to schedule a vote this week on his bill to pay our Armed Forces during the government shutdown. U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines are still manning their posts around the world. Their families should not suffer from the Democrats’ temper tantrums. A vote on Johnson’s bill will show the country which senators are putting party politics ahead of the troops.

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI)

JOSH HAWLEY — Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is circulating a draft bill to ban AI companion bots for children. Hawley’s proposal would require AI companies to verify users’ ages and create new criminal punishments for exposing children to explicit AI “companionship”. Hopefully, the legislation will be fast-tracked, as AI companies are already planning to roll out AI porn bots soon.

CYNTHIA LUMMIS — Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) has introduced a new bill requiring truck drivers to speak and read English. In the wake of several deadly accidents caused by “undocumented” semi drivers this summer, Lummis’s bill would suspend the license of any trucker who failed an English proficiency test. The only question to ask about Lummis’s commonsense idea is: How is this not already the law?!

This Week

The Senate has one vote scheduled so far for this week: once again, on a short-term spending bill to reopen the government.

Other votes this week could include several district court nominations and Sen. Johnson’s proposal to pay the troops during the shutdown.
