** Hello Friends!
------------------------------------------------------------
I am writing to let you know that as of today I am stepping away from my position as Executive Director of Santa Fe Dreamers. I founded this organization 5 years ago to try and bring transformative legal services to people in our community and gladly took on the role of director to lead our mission and help us grow our programs. We now have 25 employees, offices in 3 cities, an enormous budget, and a growing national profile. The job has become a lot more than this one little lawyer bargained for. In spite of the challenges of these times, it is an exciting moment for Santa Fe Dreamers and it is time to pass on leadership to someone who is ready for the challenge of shepherding our organization into its next phase. It has been an incredible five years. So much has happened beyond what I dreamed was possible and the organization that I have helped build truly belongs to our dedicated employees and our community of clients, funders, organizational partners, and our vast network of supporters.
I am eager to see what is going to happen in the capable hands of its next leaders.
We had been planning to begin the ED search this spring but were derailed by Covid-19. So, happily, in the meantime, we have appointed our development director who has been with our organization since its start, Michael Santillanes, to be interim Director while we begin the search for permanent leadership. I will not be totally departing our organization but plan to take a step back to support Michael through this transition as his consigliere, if you will, and to continue to do legal supervision and strategy where I am critical-- back to my roots as a lawyer. Michael's track record for Santa Fe Dreamers has been stellar, he has experience directing a non profit of this size, and he absolutely embodies the values of abolition, liberation, anti-racism, and community engagement that we have committed to as an organization. Michael’s email address is
[email protected]. As we move forward you can reach out to him or to both of us for any reason.
I am really writing just to thank you all for your support throughout the last several years and for how you have helped me and our organization grow. Thank you for believing in us. I assure you I am not saying goodbye but taking a much needed step back to let myself and Santa Fe Dreamers become whatever we are both going to be next. I am so happy and lucky to have built something that I believe in with a community of people who I also believe in-- even more strongly. I don’t know if it gets better than that.
With so much love,
Allegra
