MIAMI-DADE COUNTY FACES AN EXPENDITURE PROBLEM

[7]

Budgets are not just numbers. They are value statements that reveal
whether a government is truly serving its people or serving itself.
That is why this year, I voted NO on the Miami-Dade County budget for
FY 2025–26. It was not a decision I took lightly, but one made of
conviction. When I looked at this budget, I saw a troubling pattern: a
government that keeps growing larger, more expensive, and less
sustainable, recognizing the County is facing shortfalls for the next
4 years, while families are asked to do more with less.

COMMISSIONER HIGGINS’ COMPOSTING LEGISLATION ADVANCES CLIMATE
RESILIENCE IN MIAMI-DADE

[30]

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins’ legislation
[31] to ALLOW ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE, COMMUNITY-BASED
COMPOSTING OPERATIONS TO LEGALLY OPERATE IN THE COUNTY WAS
ADOPTED today by the Board of County Commissioners. This new
ordinance clears the way for small-scale composters—those turning
local food scraps into nutrient-rich soil—to operate within
Miami-Dade’s regulatory framework while upholding strong
environmental protections. The measure addresses one of the most
pressing challenges facing the County: an overwhelmed waste system and
landfills nearing capacity.

ENTREPRENEUR-LED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: POWERING THE 305 FROM THE
GROUND UP

[37]

Entrepreneur-led economic development is reshaping how local
governments support economic growth — and Miami-Dade County is
becoming a model for this fresh, action-oriented approach. Unlike
traditional economic development, which often centers on recruiting
large national or international companies, this new model focuses on
building from the bottom up. It mirrors the mindset of entrepreneurs
themselves: move fast, iterate, and adapt. Instead of being
process-heavy, it champions a “launch and optimize” philosophy —
because when you’re building a business, speed and responsiveness
matter.

2025 NISSAN MURANO IS BUILT FOR MIAMI LIFESTYLE

[43]

Miami has a way of testing cars. One minute you’re crawling on I-95
in rush hour heat, and the next, you’re sliding into a packed garage
in Brickell or packing paddleboards for a weekend in Key Biscayne. If
an SUV can’t juggle comfort, style, and versatility, it won’t
survive here. That’s why the all-new 2025 Nissan Murano feels like
it was made with our city in mind.
