19 Days and Counting of the Schumer Shutdown

.Dear Friend,

Today marks day 19 of the ongoing government shutdown led by Schumer and the Democrats.

Exactly one month ago, House Republicans passed a clean funding bill to keep the government open for the American people. Disappointingly, Senate Democrats have held our government hostage in exchange for $1.5 trillion in out-of-touch demands, as I said when I joined Washington Watch.

Among their outrageous demands, Democrats are requesting the removal of the Rural Health Transformation Program from Republicans’ Working Families Tax Cuts legislation, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill. If Democrats get their wish, rural Kansans will lose out on health care. At the same time, Congressional Democrats are demanding American taxpayers fund $200 billion of health care for illegal immigrants.

Reopening the government rests with the Senate Democrats, and I hope they will do what is right for our country, and our state, and vote to fund the government.

Headline: Kansas Air National Guard’s 184th Wing

.This week the 184th Wing of the Kansas Air National Guard was selected to host the U.S. Air Force Point Defense Battle Laboratory. The 184th Wing is located at McConnell Air Force Base.

The Point Defense Battle Lab will contribute to our nation’s security capabilities by advancing counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems and point defense. Additionally, Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) will help with the mission. I’m happy that our district will help lead our nation in aviation and defense.

.The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that Republicans’ Working Families Tax Cuts lowers Affordable Care Act (ACA) premiums for Americans. Our legislation removes waste, fraud, and abuse within ACA, including improper enrollments. I’m glad that our legislation will make health care more accessible to Kansans, and I’m happy to have supported this legislation. Unfortunately, this legislation that is beneficial to the American people was unanimously opposed by Congressional Democrats.

.Did you know that Dexter, Kansas, in Cowley County was named after a famous racehorse? Dexter became known as the world’s premier trotting horse in the 1860s, and he won 46 of 50 races. In 1868, then-presidential candidate Ulysses S. Grant rode in a horse-drawn carriage led by Dexter. The famous horse lived to the age of 30, and he was later inducted into the Harness Racing Museum Hall of Fame. The town of Dexter was officially founded in 1876 and named after this notable animal.
