Friend,

Yesterday, from Stamford to Westport, across CT-04 and Connecticut, thousands of our neighbors took to the streets. Families, students, teachers, and workers stood together united by a simple belief: this country belongs to the people, and we refuse to hand it over to anyone who believes power should rest in the hands of one person. That is what patriotism looks like.

Democracy is not a birthright. It is a responsibility. And every generation is called to decide whether we will live as citizens or as subjects.

Authoritarians throughout history have made the same bet. They assume people will step back so they can step in.

But the millions who peacefully rallied nationally yesterday tell a different story. People are awake and engaged, refusing to surrender their voice. Together, they sent a clear message: not here, not now, not in the United States of America.

We need to be clear-eyed about the moment we are in. There is a movement in this country that praises strongmen, attacks the press, undermines the rule of law, and demands loyalty to a single leader instead of the Constitution. That is not who we are. For nearly 250 years, the American story has been a rejection of kings, whether they wear a crown or simply hunger for the power of one.

So I am asking you to stay engaged. Keep showing up. Keep demanding accountability. Keep insisting that this country remain a nation of laws and a nation that answers to the people, not to a king.

Have courage. We will prevail.

— Jim
