You may not have heard about Pennsylvania’s upcoming supreme court election. But the GOP certainly has.

The state’s richest man, a billionaire businessman, along with loads of special interests, have been laser-focused on this off-year supreme court election – a special type of election called a “retention election” in which voters simply vote “yes” or “no” for each incumbent justice to be kept on the court. In this year’s election, three incumbent Democratic justices are up for retention, with no alternative Republican candidates on the ballot.

Here’s why: The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has been a backstop for protecting Pennsylvanians’ voting rights for years — from extending the length of time voters could cast mail-in ballots, to striking down the egregiously gerrymandered maps passed by the GOP legislature.

Republicans are playing the long game — hoping that by kicking out three Democratic justices, they’ll be able to push the swing state to be more conservative and even potentially pass another gerrymandered map without any check on their bad behavior.

It’s up to us to stop them. That’s why we’re asking: In the final weeks of this election, will you help us reach voters in Pennsylvania and in battleground states across the country? [[link removed]]

We have our work cut out for us in Pennsylvania. And we’re up against billionaires and special interests who want to hand-pick their justices so they can force through their agenda. We simply can’t let that happen.

Justices Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht are fair-minded and independent. These Democracy Defenders have fiercely protected the freedoms of all Pennsylvanians and stood for the rule of law. That’s why the NDRC is fighting just as hard for them.

Help us finish this election strong and compete against the billionaires and special interests trying to influence elections around the country. Donate to power our work in electing pro-democracy champions. [[link removed]]
