John --

I wanted to take a moment to address an upsetting incident that occurred last week. I think it’s worth discussing, because it’s emblematic of a larger problem of hatred and ugliness in our society and our politics.

My campaign was holding a virtual event on Zoom with Congressman Jerry McNerney, who represents California’s 9th Congressional District, when a group of intruders inserted violent and offensive imagery including swastikas, Ku Klux Klan rallies and pornography before we could expel them from the meeting.

This was a terrible experience for everyone attending the event, my team, and for me. We’re sad, traumatized, and, once again, reminded of how far we still have to go in fighting the pernicious forces of racism, xenophobia, and antisemitism -- a topic that is personal to me as a Jewish person.

The majority of Americans are disgusted by these expressions of hatred, but sadly the few who hold these awful views have found new life and energy under Trump. It’s clear that they’re targeting campaigns like ours, which strive for a better, more hopeful, and above all more inclusive America.

Today, please join me in sending a strong message that we are united against hate, in all forms. In Congress, I promise to be a leader who stands for unity and healing.

Now, let’s make history in our district, undeterred by those who are against us. We’re in this together.

Thanks for reading,

Chris
