We are now closing in on three weeks of the federal government shutdown forced by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution to appease the Progressive Left. All the while, hard-working Americans and their families are deprived of a fully functioning government. To reopen, Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending, including free health care for illegal aliens, eliminating work requirements for Medicaid, cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals, and funding DEI initiatives in foreign countries. While three brave Senate Democrats have broken with their party to do what is right, five more individuals are needed to vote to end the shutdown.

I proudly voted to fund the federal government and keep it open to serve the good people of Eastern North Carolina, and my offices remain open to help you during this difficult time. Additionally, I will continue my work as an accessible representative, meeting with veterans, health care professionals, community leaders, and constituents to listen to the needs of NC-03 despite the political charade.

In Washington

Statement on 10th Democrat Vote Against Reopening the Government

Senate Democrats have voted ten times against a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution that would reopen the government and keep funding at the same levels they are at now. The House CR has no partisan measures in it whatsoever, but Democrats keep choosing to put party over country rather than fund the government. As a ransom, they are demanding taxpayers fund healthcare for illegal aliens, repeal $50 billion in funding for rural health care, and eliminate commonsense work requirements for Medicaid.

Republicans and President Trump have worked hard to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse to safeguard working American families and their tax dollars. Now, Senate Democrats are holding the federal government hostage because Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is trying to appease the Progressive Left and protect his political career. The American people deserve to be put first, not forced to endure this charade. Schumer and Democrats must end the games and vote to reopen the government.

Government Shutdown Resources

Another day of government shutdown is another day the American people must suffer the consequences of Democrat political games. Our troops, rural health care providers and patients, our national parks, border security, and seniors are all being impacted. Worse still for Eastern North Carolina, authorization for the National Flood Insurance Program has lapsed in the midst of hurricane season, when we are most vulnerable to intense weather systems and flooding.

I proudly voted to fund the federal government and keep it open to serve the good people of Eastern North Carolina. That is why my offices in DC and the district have remained open to help folks navigate this difficult time. Additionally, I have resources on my website to help you with any issues you may encounter.

I urge Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats to end the charade and allow us to get back to the people’s work. We have many more important items to address before the end of the year and little time to waste.

Historic Israel-Gaza Peace Deal

After over two years of conflict, a historic ceasefire and the release of hostages have finally been secured.

I am grateful for President Trump’s commitment to ending the war and efforts to bring lasting peace to the region. Israel is America’s greatest ally in the Middle East and justly defended itself against those responsible for the heinous events of October 7th, 2023.

I am encouraged by this incredible development and wish for safety, hope, and prosperity moving forward. Finally, I continue to pray for justice for the innocent lives impacted by senseless bloodshed and acts of terror.

Telephone Town Hall

Thank you to everyone who joined my telephone town hall tonight to discuss the government shutdown.

One month ago, House Republicans passed a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution to keep our government funded at existing levels. Democrats resisted and forced a shutdown that has gone on for eight days now, with no end in sight. They are holding the federal government hostage for political purposes and manufacturing various crises to scare the American people. Republicans have done our job by supporting a government funding package without partisan gimmicks. It's time for Senate Democrats to stop the political games and end the shutdown.

I am proud to have voted to keep the government open and will continue to be an advocate for commonsense and constructive dialogue.

National Farmers’ Day

October 12th was National Farmers’ Day! Farmers play an important role in North Carolina’s economy, contributing over $100 billion to our thriving state. In the Third District, we have many local farms that strengthen our communities and help feed America.

Livestock farming and agriculture are vital components of NC’s economy and essential to the prosperity of our rural communities. I want to thank you all for your hard work and dedication. NC wouldn’t be the same without our farmers!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, represented by the pink, which stands for hope and action. This form of cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide, with over 2 million being diagnosed annually. Men can still be diagnosed with this cancer- typically, 1 in 726 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime. This cancer develops when cells grow uncontrollably and form a tumor.

There are many causes for Breast cancer: genetic factors, age, lifestyle, and hormonal factors. It is necessary to participate in regular screening for early detection, which will improve treatment outcomes and could be lifesaving. Thinking of all the women and men who face the brave battle against this terrible cancer.

Hurricane Resources for Eastern North Carolina

Eastern North Carolina is no stranger to hurricanes. Whether it’s your first season or your fifteenth, it is important to stay prepared. I am grateful that Hurricane Humberto and Imelda did not severely impact our district this season, and I pray for safety throughout the rest of the year.
