How are elected leaders working to address homelessness in El Dorado County?
Find out at a Joint Special meeting of the EDC Board of Supervisors, Placerville City Council, and South Lake Tahoe City Council on Friday, September 6, 2019 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the EDC Fair Grounds in the Organ Room (100 Placerville Dr., Placerville). The meeting will feature a presentation on the results of the Point in Time Count conducted by Home Base [link removed] including:
* Results of the CoC Point in Time Count (homeless census conducted in January);
* Discuss the County's survey results and some implications of what they mean;
* Provide an update on where the Continuum of Care (CoC) was, is now, and on going (including upcoming funding opportunities), and;
* Set the stage for the upcoming development of the 5-year strategic plan, likely to begin sometime around October-November.

No action will be taken by any of the governing bodies at this meeting. All interested El Dorado County residents are invited and encouraged to attend.
Here’s some good news: Trump’s views are becoming increasingly unpopular the longer he stays in office.
In a rational world, Trump’s boorish, crude, hateful behavior should cause reasonable people to repudiate the views Trump espouses. Guess what? That’s exactly what is happening. See The Atlantic, “The Longer Trump Stays in Office, the More Americans Oppose His Views ([link removed]) .” As explained by The Atlantic, a recent poll by Reuters found that “Americans were less likely to express feelings of racial anxiety this year, and they were more likely to empathize with African Americans.” The Reuters poll also found that “white Americans are 19 percent more supportive of a path to citizenship for
unauthorized immigrants than they were four years ago.”

What the poll shows is consistent with a positive view of human nature—negative associations with Trump’s rhetoric is turning people against his hateful views. While it may seem like Trump is increasing the racial divide in America, that is (in part) due to the ability of social media to amplify the prominence of fringe groups. See, e.g., Trump’s tweet today of a deeply-flawed study that was fated to oblivion until Trump mischaracterized it in a tweet.

Try to maintain a sense of perspective when viewing coverage of politicized and polarizing events on television and in social media. Apparently, not only is it not as bad as we thought, it’s getting better.
