This past weekend, I heard something in a debate that even shocked me, friend.
In the Virginia governor’s debate, the current Lieutenant Governor of Virginia Winsome Earle-Sears said that it wasn’t discrimination to ban gay couples from marriage. When my former House colleague Abigail Spanberger pushed back, Earle-Sears doubled down and said it wasn’t discrimination to fire someone for being gay.
So much for Virginia being for lovers, friend.
If it has to be said, it is 100% discrimination to threaten someone’s employment over who they love – I know that personally.
And I can tell you for a fact that if I were a kid today watching this, I'd be feeling scared, isolated, and ashamed, as so many must be right now.
We’ve made massive strides for LGBTQ rights over the past handful of years, but the fact is MAGA candidates like this one who’ve been inspired by Trump’s rise want to reverse our progress by decades.
Thankfully, we have a solution here: my friend Abby has been a trusted ally in my time in Congress, and I know she’ll lead Virginia with the dignity and respect for everyone who calls it home.
But with this critical election in just 16 days, the urgency has never been greater to ensure far-right groups don’t outspend our friend and we keep Virginia free for everyone.
So if you can, please rush a split donation between myself and Spanberger for Virginia to help fight back against the forces of hate trying to set America back decades.
