I sat down with a group of my neighbors in Aberdeen whose lives depend on the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid — and who are terrified about what comes next.

I heard from James, a caregiver for his partner with Parkinson’s. 

From Denise, who pays $2,000 per month for health care while managing lupus. 

From Kevin, a father of an Autistic son and the husband of a breast cancer survivor. 

From Deb, who is retired and on a fixed income.

From Leslie, a mental health provider who is struggling to afford her insurance.

And from Kyle at the Arc of Grays Harbor, advocating for people with developmental disabilities who rely on Medicaid.

Their stories matter. Their fears are real.

In our state alone, monthly premiums for ACA coverage could rise by $1,510 on average — pricing out 80,000 Washingtonians.

This is not just about numbers. These are our neighbors’ lives.
