Andrew Highlights Damaging Effects of the Government Shutdown

This week, Andrew joined with Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise to highlight the damage to our national security caused by the ongoing shutdown. He expressed deep concern for the hundreds of thousands of law enforcement and Coast Guard personnel who continue to report for duty each day to keep our country safe. Despite going without pay, these brave men and women are securing our borders, protecting our skies, and patrolling our waters. Andrew warned that the shutdown will do irreparable harm to our national security posture by pausing vital investments needed to counter rapidly evolving threats and by disrupting critical public-private cybersecurity cooperation. He again urged Senate Democrats to set aside their partisan agenda and vote to end the shutdown by passing the clean continuing resolution approved by the House on September 19. Rep Garbarino: Long Islanders pay the price for government shutdown

"

Senate Democrats have shut down the government, a decision that is directly harming Long Islanders and Americans across the country.

It did not have to happen this way. The House did its job with time to spare by passing a clean, short-term funding extension to keep the government open and operational at current funding levels. The Senate has yet to advance a funding bill of any kind. Because the Senate requires 60 votes to move this legislation, Democrats must work with Republicans and vote to reopen the government. Instead, Democrats in the Senate are using the shutdown as leverage for a partisan agenda.

WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02

Andrew Recognizes Walk for Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness

Andrew recently delivered a message of support to the attendees of this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s to raise awareness and support the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other forms of dementia. This issue touches countless families across our community—whether they’re living with Alzheimer’s themselves or caring for a loved one who is. Nearly 7 million Americans, including more than 400,000 New Yorkers, are living with Alzheimer’s today. Their families are counting on us to keep pushing for a future without this disease. Andrew thanks everyone who took part in this year’s walk for helping bring hope to those living with dementia today and working toward a cure for tomorrow.

Andrew Attends Chili and Chowder Fest in Patchogue

This weekend, Andrew joined the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce for their annual Chili and Chowder Fest, celebrating local restaurants and the Chamber's hard work supporting small businesses in our community. While there, he visited with veterans at the American Legion tent and met with representatives from America’s VetDogs, an organization that provides service dogs to veterans. Andrew appreciated the opportunity to thank those who served our country and support the groups that continue to serve them here at home.

CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Securing Expedited Passport for Family Travel

A constituent from Medford reached out to Andrew’s office for assistance in expediting a passport application ahead of an upcoming trip to attend a family event abroad. Andrew’s casework team quickly got involved and contacted the Postal Service and the State Department to ensure the application was processed without delay. As a result of these efforts, the constituent received the passport in time for their trip.

Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case.

KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS

Andrew Calls For on the Senate To End the Shutdown

Andrew joined members of New York's Congressional delegation in sending a letter to Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, condemning their continued refusal to support a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen the government. The letter points out both Senators' long record of voting in favor of clean CRs to keep the government open and federal employees paid. This change in behavior is a disservice to our nation and millions of hard-working federal employees in New York. The letter highlighted the Senators' own past statements opposing government shutdowns, including Senator Schumer's describing shutdowns as "the politics of idocracy" and that "shutting down government over a policy difference is self-defeating."

Andrew Recognizes Italian Heritage Month

This week, Andrew, as vice chair of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, was proud to co-lead the effort to introduce a House Resolution recognizing October as Italian and Italian American Heritage Month. Andrew is honored to recognize the work of his fellow Italian Americans who have made invaluable contributions to our country. Italian Americans have played a key role in building and shaping our communities, and they deserve appreciation for their role in our national story.
