NEWS DIGEST

by Brandon Waltens

Good morning,

Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham is demanding accountability after the Alamo Trust’s official social media account posted [[link removed]] a message recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day instead of Columbus Day.

The now-deleted post honored Indigenous communities and promoted an upcoming museum gallery—but quickly drew backlash from Texans accusing the Trust of pushing a political agenda.

Buckingham responded forcefully, saying she did not authorize the post and declaring, “Woke has no place at the Alamo.” She announced an internal investigation into how the Trust approves its social media content.

In a letter obtained by Texas Scorecard, Buckingham accused the Trust’s leadership of being “misaligned with the culture of The Alamo” and called for personnel accountability.

She expects the Trust’s board to deliver a full report outlining who will be held responsible.
