Louisiana Leads on Oil Exports
Recently, I met with officials representing the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP). LOOP, which was built as an oil import terminal, has seen a huge surge in exports of American oil, which would not have been possible without our success in lifting the oil export ban in 2015.
For decades, American oil could not be exported overseas, and in 2015, I worked tirelessly with my colleagues in Congress to finally get the oil export ban lifted. What we knew then is proving true today: that by lifting the ban, American energy could be exported to countries all across the world, undermining hostile foreign countries like Iran and Russia by replacing their oil with American oil, all while creating good jobs here in Louisiana and across our country. Since the export ban was lifted in 2015, the U.S. has doubled it's total oil exports year over year for the past three years. It was great to discuss how Louisiana, through LOOP, is a leader in this new export business.
LOOP President Terry Coleman and I spoke with WWL-TV about Louisiana's growing export business. Watch the news story here.
Mourning the Loss of Governor Blanco
Earlier this week, former Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer. I was saddened to hear of her passing. She served our state with honor and integrity during an incredibly challenging period as Louisiana recovered from both hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Kathleen dedicated her entire life to public service and will be remembered as someone who cared deeply for Louisiana, her people, and our culture. Jennifer and I will keep Coach and all of her family in our prayers.
Reading to Jefferson Parish First Graders
This week, I visited the East Bank Regional Library to read to and speak with local first grade students. We read House Mouse, Senate Mouse together, which explains how Congress and the President work together to make laws.
It was great to read with such an eager and bright group of young students.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
God Bless,
Steve Scalise
House Republican Whip
