Here’s what could happen if the Supreme Court decides to gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which prevents politicians from using discriminatory maps to dilute the voting power of communities of color:

* As POLITICO explained, citing our new report with Black Voters Matter, it “would let Republicans redraw up to 19 House seats to favor the party and crush minority representation in Congress.”
* Up to 30% of the Congressional Black Caucus and 11% of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus could lose their seats.
* And combined with mid-decade redistricting, the GOP could gain a total of 27 safe seats, enough to cement one-party rule of the U.S. House for a generation.

The blow to fair representation would be particularly severe in the South, where the Voting Rights Act has ensured a voice for Black Americans who’d been systematically locked out of power by Jim Crow.

But as the far right tries to turn back the clock, take us to a pre-1965 America, and cement authoritarian rule, we’re growing our movement to defend free and fair elections, prevent voter suppression, and ensure equal access to the ballot box.

Please make a donation of $30 or any amount today to defend the freedom to vote and protect the principle of fair representation from anti-democracy manipulation. [[link removed]]

There is a path out of this authoritarian doom loop — but it’s narrow, and it’s going to take all of us working together. As a movement of grassroots activists, we must demand that pro-voter lawmakers in Congress take specific steps to secure free and fair elections:

1. Pass pro-democracy legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ban partisan gerrymandering, require nonpartisan redistricting, and protect Americans from restrictive laws passed in states after the Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act.
2. Launch hearings and investigations into gerrymandered maps around the country to expose how minority voters are being silenced and build the case for reform.
3. Reform and hold the Supreme Court accountable — enforcing transparency, setting ethical standards, and considering structural reforms — to ensure the Supreme Court serves the Constitution rather than entrenched power.

We either push back now, or surrender the future of multiracial democracy. And rest assured: at Fair Fight Action, we’ll keep marching forward to ensure our government is truly accountable to we the people — all the people.

If you’re committed to the fight ahead, please strengthen our pro-voter movement with a donation today. [[link removed]]
