Friend,

The government has been shut down for over two weeks. House Republicans haven’t been in Washington for four weeks – instead, they’re sitting in their home districts refusing to work with Democrats to come to an agreement to reopen the government.

Their refusal to extend ACA tax credits could mean Illinois families pay $500 more per month for health care. That could be the difference between putting food on the table or stretching a tight budget even further, and the GOP was so against helping working families in this country that they shut down the government.

That’s unacceptable for the functioning of our democracy. It’s unacceptable for families who are already dealing with rising costs.

And it’s unacceptable for the many federal workers who are paying the price – air traffic controllers forced to continue working without pay, active duty military who have missed their last paycheck, federal workers furloughed, and everyday people who are unable to access much-needed services.

You deserve better than being treated like a pawn in a political game where no one wins. While I’ve spoken to many folks back home in IL-13 about how the shutdown is affecting them, I want to hear from you directly: Will you take my survey?

Thank you,
