Over the past few months, suffering has reached a new breaking point for families in crisis. Gaza is still facing unprecedented humanitarian collapse as famine continues to spread. In Sudan, recent floods have inundated villages and worsened an already dire humanitarian crisis.
Mercy Corps team and partners are on the ground responding to the needs of families after crises have escalated and left millions without food, water, shelter, or peace.

Gaza
This month marked two years since the violence escalated in Gaza, causing two long years of devastation, displacement, and unrelenting hunger. The toll on human life is heartbreaking: At least 1.9 million people across the Gaza Strip — about 90% of the population — have been forced from their homes, according to the United Nations. Hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure like water and sewage systems have been damaged and destroyed.
Gaza is unlivable. And every day, innocent civilians are being pushed to the edge of survival. Young children are missing out on school or their childhood and instead are collecting water to survive. Mother and father are lining up at the community kitchen for the opportunity to get a hot meal. Entire families are being forced to evacuate once again, after being displaced multiple times.
Palestinians struggle to get donated hot meals at a community kitchen.
Mercy Corps is on the ground responding to the urgent needs of Palestinians. But an urgent agent is needed to save lives. We’re running out of time — the international community needs to take action and to ensure that the current ceasefire lasts, the return of all hostages, restoration of life-sustaining services, and sustained access to aid for millions.
Despite current aid block aids, our teams are delivering clean drinking water to those who desperately need it, reaching an average of 800 households per day. Since October 2023, Mercy Corps and partner organizations have reached over 385,000 people with emergency items such as food baskets, hygiene, water, and shelter kits, and supported more than 33,300 families with emergency cash assistance as prices continue to rise exponentially.
Sudan
Right now, a natural disaster is deepening the already dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Flooding has displaced thousands of families as it grapples with a two-year-long political conflict. Over 25 million people don’t have enough to eat; meanwhile, 600,000 people are experiencing famine. One of our team members, Emmanuel Ufot, shared what the experience is on the ground:

"The food and hunger situation is something [like] a black hole. You know something bad is happening, but you don’t have all the pieces of information."

Mercy Corps is working alongside communities and partners to provide emergency response and long-term assistance. In eight of Sudan’s 18 states, our teams are providing emergency cash assistance for nearly 150,000 people so that they can buy essentials like food, water, medicine, and hygiene supplies. We’re also laying the groundwork for when the violence ends, supporting over 76,000 smallholder farmers impacted by conflict with high-quality seeds and cash to ensure farmers can plant and have enough crops during harvest season.
As we continue to respond to escalating crises around the world, support from people like more is vitally important. Children are missing out on education, families are losing their livelihoods, and communities are on the brink of losing hope. We must respond swiftly to meet the needs of those who need it most.
As a committed supporter, will you make a gift today to help us deliver lifesaving and life-sustaining aid to Gaza, Sudan, and 35+ countries around the world?
Sincerely,
The Mercy Corps team
