I'll never forget the smell, John.

When I visited Commerce City for the first time, the air itself told the story. Thick refinery emissions hung over neighborhoods where children play. Families breathed invisible toxins every single day.

Commerce City is one of the most polluted zip codes in America. Just six miles north of Denver, it’s dominated by the Suncor refinery — a major polluter that’s contaminated the air and water for decades with almost no accountability.

I've toured the neighborhoods where children are suffering from asthma and respiratory illnesses. I've met with local leaders and environmental activists like Lucy Molina, who shared what life is like for her and her neighbors — stories of health issues and a community constantly enveloped by nearby industrial sites, including the Nestlé Purina pet food factory.

Despite being a "blue" state, Colorado isn't a green state. The state keeps ramping up oil and gas exports, so local leadership matters more than ever.

JanePAC isn't giving up on Commerce City. We've been investing in this community's fight for environmental justice, and we're doubling down. That's why I'm proud to share that we are endorsing three fierce Commerce City leaders — including Lucy — who are running for City Council this November.

These are champions who will speak truth to power and fight back against the corporate polluters poisoning their community. Will you chip in a few dollars to help us support climate champions like them all across the country? [[link removed]]

Meet Our Climate Champions

🌍 Lucy Molina is running for City Council Ward 1. She's tired of watching her community suffer while the company racks up violations with barely a slap on the wrist. Lucy knows there are two standards in Colorado: one for corporate polluters and another for everyone else, and she's running to change that.

🌎 Renée Chacon is running for City Council Ward 3. As Executive Director of Womxn from the Mountain and former co-chair of Colorado's Environmental Justice Action Task Force, Renée has spent years building the data and policy frameworks that prove that racism and redlining created the toxic nightmare Commerce City faces today. Now, she’s running for reelection to turn that research into real change at City Hall.

🌏 Kristi Douglas is running for reelection to her At-Large City Council seat after proving she's willing to take on the powerful interests that have turned Commerce City into a sacrifice zone. She's repeatedly challenged pipeline companies, refineries, and storage facilities at public hearings — standing up for residents when state and federal regulators have failed them. Her constituents know she'll always choose their health over corporate profits.

In such a major oil-and-gas producing state, we want our JanePAC candidates to hold office up and down the ballot, from Congress to the City Council in the smallest of towns. Fossil fuel interests know exactly how high the stakes are in these low-profile local races. And so do we.

But with just 17 days until Election Day, we need your support right now to power our final push. Can I count on you to chip in before midnight to help us elect climate champions who refuse to let their communities become sacrifice zones? [[link removed]]
