Dear John,
I write to you today about a significant and pressing issue: the right to vote.
Last month, the Georgia primary election was marred by serious voter suppression, as were other recent primaries all across the nation. Voters waited in line for hours, voting machines malfunctioned, mail-in ballots did not arrive, and the threat of COVID-19 forced many to risk their health in order to vote.
The severity of this problem drew national attention. Take a look at this article from CNN:
"'A giant warning siren': Concerns about November's election grow after Georgia's disastrous primary" ([link removed])
Every voice must be heard. That is why, as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, I helped push forward legislation today that would help strengthen our electoral system ahead of the November election – one of the most important elections of our lifetime.
John, I would like to request you to sign our voting rights petition to show your support for this initiative. Sign on here to show that you’re with me in this fight: [link removed]
The right to vote is a fundamental element of our American democracy.
When vulnerable citizens – particularly communities of color, seniors, and people dealing with health challenges – lose their ability to be heard at the ballot box, they lose that fundamental American right.
But the only way that we can put protections in place is by raising our voices loudly and as one.
Please, John, this will take all of us – and we need to act now to fix the problem by November. Sign on to protect the voting rights of thousands of Georgians.
Working hard for you,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
