John, far-right GOP lawmakers in Washington are using this shutdown as an excuse to play dangerous political games with people’s lives — and they’re directly targeting Democratic areas.
The Republican establishment is ripping away nearly $28 billion in previously approved funds from critical infrastructure and energy projects. This is money that the federal government already allocated to initiatives like electric grid upgrades and transportation improvements that would strengthen our communities and help folks of all political stripes. And here’s the kicker: Over $27 billion of the cuts are in congressional districts led by Democrats.
John, folks in Democratic districts are getting specifically singled out to bear the brunt of this political gambit. Washington Republicans have no qualms about harming working Americans by shutting down essential investments in our communities as long as they can score a few political points.
It’s got to stop.
