Want to see the Republican playbook for exploiting every loophole to undermine the will of the people?

Just look at Ohio.

First, let’s rewind back to 2018. That was the year Ohioans overwhelmingly voted to pass a constitutional amendment that takes redistricting out of the hands of partisan politicians. Voters said overwhelmingly that the majority party shouldn’t be able to draw maps that enable them to unfairly accumulate more power.

Flash forward to today, and things look very different. Republicans are currently trying to run out the clock on the process enshrined by Ohio voters so that the map redraw gets kicked to the GOP-controlled legislature. They’re doing this so they can follow Trump’s dictate to pass a new, egregiously gerrymandered map without any Democratic votes by the end of November.

This is nothing but a cynical attempt to undermine democracy itself. It’s a slap in the face to voters. And it’s a sign that Republicans know they can’t win on their policies, so they have to cheat their way into power — which is why we have to stop it.

Right now, the NDRC is mobilizing in every state that’s forcing through mid-decade redraws, from Ohio to Missouri to Texas. Alongside the fair maps movement, we’re organizing volunteers, raising the alarm in the media, and working to elect Democracy Defenders in the 2025 elections.
