In Parliament today, the Chancellor unveiled his plans for the economy. We had been promised a Green Recovery but the reality fell far short.
The £3 bn the Government plans to spend on green jobs and home insulation is dwarfed by ongoing public funding for fossil fuels, not least the £27bn to be spent on road building.
This should be a defining moment in our history. Will you help us make sure the Government knows what a true Green Recovery looks like? |

What we needed to hear today was how the Government will reshape the economy, making the health and wellbeing of people and nature its top priority – not growth for growth’s sake.
What we needed to hear was a commitment to delivering the original, genuine Green New Deal – a step by step plan for transforming the economy and building a green and just future.
Yesterday, I re-tabled my cross party Green New Deal Bill. It sets out the scale of action and ambition needed to radically rewire our systems, to put climate and social justice at the heart of all Government decisions.
It’s a line in the sand.
Not one penny more of public money should be spent propping up the fossil fuel economy or fuelling the climate emergency.
