Peaceful protest starts with knowing your rights.
Friend –
Today, millions of people nationwide are peacefully and lawfully protesting against abuse of power. The message is clear: If President Trump wants to abuse his power and target our communities, he'll have to answer to the people. If you're planning to join a protest, or know someone who is, it can be helpful to know the Constitutional rights that protect you.
The ACLU team has pulled together key information on how to stay safe while exercising your First Amendment freedoms – and a main page you can turn to throughout the day for live updates. <[link removed]>
If you're wondering:
* I'm organizing a protest – what are the rules I should know?
* I'm attending – what can the police ask me to do?
* I want to take photos or record video – is that protected?
* I was stopped by the police – what are my rights?
* I want to share protest information online – what's safe to post?
You'll find our Know Your Rights: Protester Guide at the top of our resource page for the day – please take a look before heading out this morning and feel free to share widely. <[link removed]>
Read these resources, share them with your network, and encourage others to read the guide and understand their rights before they join or support any protest.
Together,
The ACLU Team
