You have a critical opportunity to protect some of the ocean’s most intelligent and sensitive animals. The Opposing the Cultivation and Trade of Octopus Produced Through Unethical Strategies (OCTOPUS) Act (S.1947) would prohibit commercial octopus farming in the U.S. and block imports of farmed octopuses from other countries.
Octopuses are extraordinary—curious, creative, and deeply intelligent. They can solve puzzles, navigate mazes, and even use tools. But in industrial aquaculture systems, their complex needs for space, stimulation, and solitude cannot be met. Octopus farming causes immense animal suffering, threatens marine ecosystems, and endangers public health through waste pollution and disease contamination.
Commercial octopus farming doesn’t yet exist in the United States. The OCTOPUS Act offers the chance to prevent this new form of factory farming before it begins. Please contact your U.S. Senators today and ask them to cosponsor the OCTOPUS Act (S.1947)!
