In just a moment, I’m going to ask you to chip in a few dollars to support Team Pettersen ahead of next year’s critical midterm elections. [[link removed]] But before I do, I want to share a bit with you about where I come from and why I’m so proud to be in this fight.

I’m Brittany Pettersen, and I was raised right here in Colorado by a working-class family. My mom worked as a hairdresser and my dad worked in construction, and both often struggled to get ahead — the same frustration so many Coloradans are experiencing right now.

I’ve dedicated my life to public service. I waited tables to put myself through school - becoming the first in my family to graduate from high school and college. After graduating, I knew I could make the biggest impact by working for candidates and organizations who shared my values — even helping re-elect Senator Bennet in one of the closest Senate elections in the country in 2010.

I ran for public office myself to give regular families a voice. I knew our government needed more people with backgrounds like mine. So in 2012, I ran for the state legislature to make sure regular families like my own weren’t forgotten.

Every day since then, I’ve been working hard for Colorado. Over the years, we’ve accomplished so much progress for our state. I helped make Colorado’s elections the most secure and accessible in the country. I helped pass legislation to ensure our kids have access to preschool and kindergarten so they have the best chance at success. I passed the Extreme Risk Protection Order law to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. I passed a law to give every Coloradan the opportunity to save and retire with dignity. And I passed the strongest Equal Pay for Equal Work legislation in the country as a state senator.

Now, I’m continuing to take those fights nationwide. Listen, I’m not naive: I know taking on all the special interests and changing Washington for the better won’t be easy, but it’s necessary. Across the country, young parents, kids, and working-class families are watching this Republican majority screw them over again and again. So we can’t give up. We have to keep working. And we have to keep fighting for a government that puts people first, not Donald Trump.

Over the coming months, you’re probably going to hear some nasty attacks against me coming from far-right Republicans and all their super PAC friends. So let me tell you the truth — directly: I’m proud of my background. And no amount of right-wing smears will ever make me run away from who I am.

And after reading this, if you believe a background and a record like mine belong in the halls of Congress, I’d be extremely grateful to have your support. I couldn’t have won any race without the help of supporters like you — and next year’s midterms will be no different. [[link removed]]
