Dear Friends,

Our community has faced extraordinary challenges in recent weeks—from the disturbing ICE raids to the ongoing government shutdown hurting families across Illinois.

Through it all, I remain focused on delivering accountability, protecting affordable healthcare, and ensuring everyone has access to the support they deserve.

Together, we’ll keep moving forward with determination, compassion, and hope.

Holding ICE Accountable

The recent ICE raids on the 105th block of Avenue N are beyond reprehensible. My team and I are working with families and community leaders to support those affected by these traumatic events. ICE agents chased residents through our neighborhood and attacked the gathered community with pepper balls, tear gas canisters, and anti-riot chemicals. These actions have no place in a nation built on justice and human rights. Secretary Noem’s reckless leadership continues to endanger lives and erode trust in public safety.

I’m demanding answers and a full investigation into the ICE raid in South Shore and the two tragic shootings by federal agents in Franklin Park and Brighton Park. I led members of the Illinois delegation in calling for full transparency and accountability from ICE and DHS. These reckless raids and shootings are unacceptable. Our communities deserve justice, clear answers, and the assurance that federal agencies are held to the highest standards of oversight and respect for civil rights.

Standing Up for Families and Affordable Care

Image

I remain focused on reopening the government and ensuring families can access affordable healthcare. Believe it or not, even Marjorie Taylor Greene agrees that ACA tax credits should be extended. If Republican leadership doesn’t agree to extend ACA tax credits, monthly health insurance costs will almost triple for 15,000 people in the Second District.

Democrats have a plan to stop it. Unfortunately, while we’re working to find solutions, Republicans have walked away from the table and shut down the government. We can end this shutdown and address the growing healthcare crisis—if both parties come together and put people first.
