NPH is excited to announce that SB 899 has passed out of the Senate! This is a huge victory for our work, as the bill passed the Senate floor with near unanimous support. SB 899 is an NPH co-sponsored bill that would allow faith-based organizations and nonprofit colleges to build affordable housing through streamlined zoning. This bill is designed to directly address housing segregation throughout our state by opening up exclusive communities of opportunity to affordable housing development.

This is a major step towards victory for affordable housing, but the journey is not over yet. The bill now heads to the Assembly where it will be first discussed in the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development. Let's protect our state's future, and help the Bay Area create more inclusive communities. Tell your Assemblymember you support this bill:

The Sac Bee reports that six COVID-19 cases have been reported by the California Assembly so far. To help protect the safety of the State Capitol, the Summer Recess will be extended until further notice. NPH will update our members once there are more details available.
