John,
Democrats in the Senate continue their government shutdown as they refuse to pass a funding measure at the expense of all Americans, especially our most vulnerable citizens. The numbers don't lie - we cannot afford to be played as pawns in the Democrats' political game any longer.
While the Democrats work to keep the government closed, President Trump has been hard at work securing peace in the Middle East. His peace plan has already taken effect, and a ceasefire is now in place, garnering praise from across the world!
We can see a stark contrast in what each party stands for in the lead-up to 2026. The Democrats will play political games to the detriment of Americans, while Republicans will be hard at work delivering positive results and a more peaceful world. Please consider joining our efforts below!

Damages of the Democratic Shutdown
Democrats in the Senate have refused to support a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government and end the shutdown in order to gain political leverage against Republicans. This is despite the fact that Democrats and Republicans were able to pass 13 bipartisan CRs during Biden's term in office. The Democrats' political gamesmanship has already proven devastating to many of our nation's and state's most vulnerable citizens.
Economic Impact
Both Goldman Sachs and the Federal Reserve estimate that the U.S. economy will lose $15 billion [[link removed]] per week during the shutdown. In Wisconsin, this translates to $234 million lost every week and $1 billion per month. The shutdown leads to greater economic uncertainty, leading to lower business investment and high volatility in financial markets. Both of those factors contribute to losses for Americans who have money in stocks, 401(k)s, and pension funds. Small businesses are now unable to secure SBA loans, which cost them about $2 billion [[link removed]] during the last shutdown. They are also losing out on $3 billion [[link removed]] of federal contracts per week that go to small businesses, leading to potential layoffs.
Delays in Benefits
Social Security, Medicare, and VA [[link removed]] benefits will all face delays and cuts to the services they provide. SNAP and WIC programs are set to run out of funding at the end of October. WIC provides nutritional and healthcare support for over 7 million women and young children. SNAP provides nutritional support for 40 million Americans, including 689,000 Wisconsinites [[link removed]], of whom 267,000 are children.
Disruptions in the Federal Workforce
Over 1.9 million [[link removed]] federal civilian employees now face being furloughed or working without timely pay. Wisconsin currently employs about 30,000 [[link removed]] federal workers. CBP officers, Border Patrol, and TSA agents all continue to work without timely pay. During past shutdowns, this has meant up to 10% of TSA workers calling in sick to work, resulting in widespread airport delays. Federal contractors are not entitled to backpay, and the total losses in consumer spending as a result of the shutdown is about $30 billion [[link removed]] per month due to the lost wages of federal workers and contractors. This will mean less revenue for Main Street small businesses.
Peace in the Middle East
While Senate Democrats have been hard at work to keep the government shut down, President Trump has been at work securing peace in Gaza. Hostages have been released by HAMAS and Israel forces have withdrawn as part of President Trump's 20-point peace plan [[link removed]], as it starts to take effect. The ceasefire has already begun, and leaders from across the world have praised President Trump's efforts. Foreign Ministers within the Arab world from Qatar, Jordan, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have all signed a statement [[link removed]] welcoming President Trump's plan. Within the US, even Democratic politicians like Hillary Clinton, Anthony Blinken, and Kamala Harris have commended President Trump [[link removed]] on his effort for peace.
