Email from Rep. Van Duyne   Irving, TX – Our federal government remained shut down this week as government funding lapsed on October 1st, resulting in the shutdown. Republicans in the House did our job nearly four weeks ago, by passing a clean funding bill to keep our government open. Democrats in the Senate have now voted 10 times to keep our government closed and hold the American people and our government hostage. This bill was a compromise and now Senate Democrats are refusing to do the right thing for the American people. Thankfully, President Trump is taking measures to ensure the brave men and women of our military were able to be paid this week and that the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is not being interrupted. Meanwhile, the Democrats continue to play games, and are putting the livelihoods of hardworking Americans in jeopardy. Democrats instead want to give taxpayer-funded handouts to illegal immigrants and waste $1.5 trillion. A shutdown shouldn’t be leveraged to increase wasteful spending. While the Democrats continue to hold our government hostage, I remain committed to working on finding a path forward. Our offices in Addison and Washington, D.C. have and will continue to remain open and available to help you or answer any questions you may have. Recently, I had the chance to visit the Dallas ICE facility that was attacked just a few weeks ago. These brave men and women continue showing up to work every day, despite being targeted and despite currently working without pay during the Democrat shutdown. I introduced the One Citizen, One Seat Act to address the flaws of the 2020 U.S. Census to ensure that our nation is provided an accurate census count based on American citizenship. You can read more in my Work of the Week. North Texas is home to over 300,000 veterans, representing every branch of the Armed Forces and every era of service. I’m excited to partner with the Veterans History Project to record and preserve the firsthand military experiences of Texas veterans. The VHP’s archives offer a vivid and deeply human record of service, courage, sacrifice, and resilience to ensure their stories are never forgotten. If you're a veteran or know a veteran interested in sharing their story, please fill out the interest form on our website. No deadline to apply. To learn more about our new project visit our website here, and reach out with any questions. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week I introduced the One Citizen, One Seat act to correct the errors in the 2020 U.S. Census and ensure our nation is provided an accurate census count that reflects the number of U.S. citizens in each state. Read more about it on my website here. Texas-24 Hometown Hero Our Texas-24 Hometown Heroes this week are the men and women who serve the Irving Police Department.
