WASHINGTON, D.C. – Americans have just three days left to make their voices heard on America First Legal’s (AFL) petition with the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) calling for a rule requiring proof of citizenship for federal voter registration.
The petition has already drawn more than 105,000 publicly posted comments, though it has received over 300,000 in its entirety, reflecting overwhelming grassroots support for strengthened election integrity.
The petition seeks to rectify a significant election integrity threat on the current federal voter registration form. The current form requires no proof of citizenship besides self-verification: simply checking a box and signing. In other words, the only thing preventing fraudulent and illegal registration by noncitizens is their own honesty, something unlikely to deter someone already intent on committing voter fraud. To secure our elections and ensure that all Americans’ votes count, AFL has asked the EAC to require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote using the federal form.
Protecting our elections is essential to preserving our republic, and this rare public comment period gives every American the opportunity to help ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in U.S. elections.
The deadline for public comments is Monday, October 20, 2025.
With only days left, now is the time to act. Every comment strengthens the fight to preserve fair, lawful elections and ensure that only Americans decide America’s future.
