Dear John

In today’s speech the Chancellor announced plans for a green recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. But despite some positive moves for home energy efficiency, there are still huge gaps in this government's plan for building a more sustainable future.

We urgently need to push him to do better, before he makes his next big economic announcement in the autumn. The majority of the public already supports a green recovery [1]. Can you make sure the Chancellor hears that message louder than ever before?
I'LL SIGN THE PETITION
With the government saying it will spend £27 billion on roads and so far only announcing £3 billion extra on climate change, this is not yet the green recovery that’s clearly needed.

There were a couple of nods towards green jobs today – and we welcome the "green homes grant" which will insulate 650,000 homes and create 140,000 jobs. But over the next decade, 15 million homes need insulation to eradicate fuel poverty and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Last month thousands of you asked your MPs to support a green and fair recovery plan. And although their responses have been a mixed bag, they’ve revealed there’s a significant interest in building a better future among politicians.

Now we need to heap even more pressure on to the Chancellor himself. Today’s announcement was a step in the right direction. But as people keep saying, recovery from the pandemic is a marathon, not a sprint. And today wasn’t the last time Rishi Sunak will have the chance to get it right.
I'LL SIGN THE PETITION
From investment in safe walking and cycling, to ending scandalous tax breaks for big polluters, practical action that boosts the economy and tackles the climate crisis is possible.

Together let’s tell the Chancellor the future we want.

Best wishes,
Muna
