Friend, I grew up in a small, tight-knit community where my dad worked as a tax collector and union leader. He fought for fair pay and good benefits, not just for himself, but for everyone in his union. From him, I learned that when we stand together, we can make life better for working families. Those lessons are with me every single day. They guided me when I first ran for the legislature in a deep-red district and won - becoming Colorado’s first openly transgender lawmaker. As Vice Chair of the House Finance Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee, I’ve had a front-row seat to the way Colorado invests in its future. Every day, I hear bills on a wide range of topics - from education and healthcare to transportation and housing - and I cast critical votes on how our state allocates its resources. 
These experiences continue to teach me that every dollar we spend is a reflection of our values, and that careful, responsible stewardship of public funds can change lives.
