I'm Lindsey Graham's niece, and I hope you will help me celebrate
my uncle's birthday!

John - You don't know me, but my name is Emillie. I'm Lindsey
Graham's niece, and I'm emailing to ask for your help.

On July 9th, Uncle Lindsey will celebrate a birthday milestone -
it will be his 65th - and I want to make sure it's one he will
always remember.

Sadly, our family likely won't be able to celebrate his big day
with him. It falls in the middle of the week, we live here in
South Carolina, and with everything going on, he'll likely be
working in our nation's capital.

I've been trying to think of a way to let him know just how
thankful I am for him and how proud I am of him. I think I've
come up with the perfect idea.

Will you take a moment to sign my uncle's digital birthday card?
I may be biased, but I think my uncle is doing an amazing job in
Washington, and I want him to know others think so, too.

Uncle Lindsey is also in the middle of a competitive re-election
campaign against the best funded Democrat in South Carolina
history, so when you sign this card, I hope you might also
include a personal contribution of $10, $25 or even $65 - in
honor of his 65th birthday!

Once I receive your digital card and the cards of other friends
and supporters, my plan is to meet him at his campaign
headquarters, bring him his favorite Chick-fil-A nuggets and a
Coke Zero, and show him your kind words.

I think the world of my Uncle Lindsey. Even as busy as he is, he
always makes time with our family a priority, and he always puts
the needs of others ahead of his own. Just ask my mom.

You may already know that Uncle Lindsey and my mother lost both
of their parents within 15 months of each other. At the time, he
was away at the University of South Carolina (he was the first in
our family to go to college). My mom was in junior high, so she
moved in with their aunt and uncle. To this day, she talks about
how her brother would come home every weekend to be with her.

Uncle Lindsey promised he would always take care of her, and he
took that commitment even further by legally adopting my mom.

They didn't have much, but they had each other. Somehow - with
the assistance of Social Security survivor benefits, their
hard-working aunt and uncle, and Uncle Lindsey's efforts - my mom
had enough to get by.

My uncle has dedicated his life to standing up for folks who work
hard, play by the rules, and just want a fair shake in life. I
get so disappointed when I see his political opponents attacking
him on TV.

They don't know my Uncle Lindsey. All they know is that my uncle
stands between them and their quest to win a Democratic majority
in the U.S. Senate.

That's another reason why I hope you'll sign your card, write a
note of encouragement, and include a contribution of $10 or more.
These next five months will be absolutely brutal for him.

Many of my earliest and fondest memories are of Uncle Lindsey.
I'm in my mid-20's now, but just as he was with my mom, he's
always been one of the most important people in my life. He has
unbending fortitude and a thick skin, but the millions of dollars
of attack ads coming his way would test anybody's spirit.

I am told you've been one of his strongest and most generous
supporters. Thanks for standing with him, believing in him, and
making his 65th birthday one that he will always cherish.

Sincerely,

Emillie
(Lindsey Graham's niece)

P.S. I almost forgot this, and it's important: please keep this
a secret. I want this to be a big surprise, so if you happen to
see my Uncle Lindsey between now and his birthday, please don't
say anything!!
